January Cover of the Month

Italian Field Post 52 was assigned to the 6th Division of the Czechoslovak Army in Italy on April 14, 1918. The field post accompanied the Division when it returned to Czechoslovakia in December of 1918. It was activated there on December 20, 1918 and was used to send mail to and from Italy. Czech troops remaining in Italy send their mail by courier to Field Post 52 where it was canceled and turned over to the Czechoslovak domestic mails. Mail via Field Post 52 to Italy was authorized only for Italian troops serving with the Czechoslovaks. Officers were required to frank their mail with Italian stamps, while troops had free franking privilages. Field Post 52 closed on June 10, 1919.

This post card was sent by a soldier from Košice (Kassa) Milano on February 25, 1919.
