Nov Cover of the Month

Post card sent by Czechoslovak Legionnaire on October 10, 1917 to an Czech-American society in Chicago. This society, “J. V. Frič,” offered Czechoslovak legionnaires American periodicals in Czech for free. The writer was assigned to the Reserve Battalion, 3rd Infantry Tatra Regiment. The unit cancel is a postal cancel. When the card arrived in New York, postal authorities added the postage due strikes. The rate for international post cards was 2 cents, so the postage due was double that rate. Two 2 cent postage due stamps were added to pay the charge.
